School Policies
AttendanceRegular and punctual attendance at school is both a legal requirement and essential for students to maximise their educational opportunities. Good school attendance is a key factor in raising attainment and reducing social exclusion. Students should be at school on time every day that the school is open, unless the absence is unavoidable and an acceptable reason is given to a member of staff.
At Kingsmead School we work in partnership with parents to encourage excellent attendance and to offer support in removing barriers that may prevent students from coming to school. However, parents are legally responsible for ensuing that their children come to school regularly and punctually. Cases of persistent absence will be referred to the Education Welfare Services, which discharges the Local Authority’s statutory responsibility in relation to school attendance, in accordance with The Education Act 1996.
Students’ who have full attendance are more successful and confident in the their studies. Those who are frequently absent not only have significant gaps in their own learning but also may hinder the learning of others because they need a disproportionate amount of support to help them catch up.
We are currently discussing Saturday detentions for regular latecomers.
Anti Bullying
Kingsmead School strongly believes that it Is the right of every member of the school community to be free from bullying. All reports of bullying will be treated seriously and in private. Students are urged not to keep quiet, but to take action. They are encouraged to tell the person that they do not like it and to stop, to seek the support of an adult, either at home or school, and to tell a teacher. Teachers will speak to the student who has been accused of bullying and the outcome of this will be told to the student who has alleged the bullying. Appropriate action will be taken where necessary. Parents will be consulted and involved in all serious cases. Records will be kept on student’s files.
Bullies will be excluded from Kingsmead when necessary, and this will be reported to the Governing Body.
