Being a school governor is a rewarding experience. They play an important role in improving the education of children and supporting the staff at Kingsmead. School governors make a valuable contribution to the running of the school.

We always welcome applications from parents to be school governors. If you feel this may interest you and you are able to offer enthusiasm and commitment, please contact Ms Prior in the school office, who will be able to give you more details and put your name forward for election when a vacancy exists. Every parent of a registered student at the school is entitled to stand for election, except someone who is: Message from Karen Yeates, Parent Governor, elected in October 2004:

" I have a daughter in Year 7 and a daughter in Year 12.

There have been several requests for Parent Governors since my eldest daughter started at Kingsmead and although I wanted to be involved I was a little worried about what being a Parent Governor would involve i.e. would I feel able to comment and make suggestions at meetings and how much of my time would be required.

However, since joining the Governing Body of Kingsmead School, my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner! I have been made to feel very welcome and am on two committees. I have also received training, which has been very helpful.

Having a child at secondary school means no more playground chats with other parents or developing a feel for the school or it’s environment. Since becoming a Parent Governor I have a greater understanding of Kingsmead School and its running.

I would encourage any parent who is thinking about becoming a Parent Governor to go for it!"
