Charity and Community Work
The students and staff of Kingsmead School are very active in the field of charity and community work. In recent years, students have raised hundreds of pounds for many worthy causes. As well as money, many students give their free time to help charitable, environmental, social and economic issues and act as role models and mentors to younger students or their immediate peer group. Recent activities students have been involved in include:
- 6th form students performing rock concerts in the playground to raise money for the Red Cross.
- Year 8 students collecting annually for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Day appeal.
- The Kingsmead Climate Change Action Group is participating in a scheme with Oxfam to grow and sell plants.
- The annual Children in Need appeal.
- Bringing the plight of those with HIV Aids to the attention of people on World AIDS Awareness Day.
- 6th form students participating in the World Challenge in Morocco in the summer of 2007. This trek across the Atlas Mountains develops leadership, fundraising and team building skills, and gives students an amazing opportunity to explore another country and culture.
