Music
This course offers an opportunity to study a wide range of musical styles, composers and performers as well as developing your own musical skills.
What will I learn?
You will study different styles of music. You will learn to listen and to perform, as well as compose your own music and develop your IT skills. You will receive individual music lessons, either in singing or on an instrument. A number of visiting teachers offer a wide range of instrumental studies. During these lessons you will prepare for the practical coursework.What sort of homework will I be set?
This will consist of research into different historical music eras and music genres. You will also be asked to practice, revise and produce notes on different musical elements.What coursework will I need to do?
You will need to perform at least two pieces of music; one in Yr 10 and one in Yr 11. You will need to compose at least two pieces of music; one in Yr 10 and one in Yr 11. You will need to write one extended essay in Yr 10.How will my work be assessed? Coursework: 60%

Terminal Task Exam 15% This is a 25 minute practical exam in which the candidate will produce a composition based on a given musical idea. This will use technique learnt in area of study 2.
Listening Examination 25% This is a 1˝ hour exam based on Music History, Music Theory and special areas of study.
They are: Dance Music, Pavan and Galliard, Watte, Disco. Traditions and Innovations: Bhangra, Salsa and Minimalism.
