Moral, Religious and Philosophical Studies
This involves the study of world and philosophical perspectives on religious issues. This course will allow you to explore many contemporary issues including genetic engineering, cloning, fertility treatments, capital punishment, from all six major world religions points of view, as well as from an agnostic, atheist and humanist standpoint.What will I learn?
This course will enable you to address fundamental questions about the basis of religious beliefs and behaviour, based on two or more world religions. Non-religious beliefs and behaviour will also be addressed. You will explore religious and non-religious attitudes towards abortion, euthanasia, drug abuse, the media and technology, crime and punishment, and the rich and poor.
This course also has high Citizenship content.
What sort of homework will I be set?
Homework will be set fortnightly. You will be asked to carry out research, answer questions, complete revision tasks, evaluate articles and other sources of information, etc.What coursework will I need to do?
There is no assessed coursework in this course.How will my work be assessed?
There is one final exam based on the study of the Truth, Spirituality and Contemporary Issues unit. This paper is 1 3/4 hours long. Therefore, your final GCSE will be assessed on:Final exam - 100%
What qualification will I gain?
GCSE: Religious Studies – Short course - Exam Board: AQA (Syllabus 3067)(This course is the equivalent of half a full GCSE).
*There may be a possibility to also study a further unit to gain a full GCSE.
