Mathematics
This is all to do with numbers and problem solving and how maths can be applied to everyday situations.What will I learn?
You will build upon the skills learnt during years 7-9. Everybody does the same course, but the topics will be slightly different or studied to a different depth according to the set you are in. You will study some or all of the following topics:
problem solving; communicating; reasoning; numbers; the number system; calculation; numerical problem solving; equations and formulas; sequences; functions and graphs; geometrical reasoning; transformation; coordinates; measurement; construction; collecting data; processing and representing data; interpreting & discussing results.
What sort of homework will I be set?
You will be set exercises to practise the mathematical skills you have been studying in class. Occasionally it might involve work on investigations or revision for tests.What coursework will I need to do?
There is no longer a coursework option for Mathematics.How will my work be assessed?
The final exam consists of two written papers (one non-calculator and one calculator paper). There are two tiers of entry: foundation (grades C-G), and higher (grades A*-D). A SCIENTIFIC calculator is needed for BOTH the foundation and higher tiers.What qualification will I gain?
