History
What will I learn?
You will learn about some of the most important events and personalities in 20th century History, building on work done in Year 9. These will include an in-depth study of Hitler's Germany and a unit on the Civil Rights movement in the United States. You will also study new topics, such as a course about Medicine through Time that covers over 2000 years of change in surgery, medical knowledge, attitudes, treatment and hospitals. There will be field visits to medical museums that will help you with this course.The skills you will develop doing History GCSE include written skills, and the ability to assess evidence as well as presentational and organisational skills. Studying History will increase your knowledge of the world around you and your confidence in expressing and supporting opinions about it.
What sort of homework will I be set?
You will be set homework that extends your class work in important areas such as the evaluation of Historical sources, essay writing and coursework. There will also be opportunities for research and project work.What coursework will I need to do?
You will complete two pieces of coursework, each spread through a term's study.These will be completed as homework assignments or will be done in class. The coursework will be on Civil Rights in the USA and American involvement in Vietnam.
How will my work be assessed?
There are two written exams. The first of these will test your knowledge and understanding of the 'Medicine Through Time' course and 'Hitler's Germany'. The second will test your ability to use historical evidence, which will be provided for you in the exam. Your final GCSE grade will depend on:| Coursework | 25% |
