This course will help you to develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

What will I learn?

You will learn to communicate and express ideas clearly: taking part in discussion; organising your ideas into sentences and paragraphs; using accurate spelling and punctuation, and writing using a variety of styles to achieve different affects. You will participate in specific speaking and listening tasks and practise examination questions.

What sort of homework will I be set?

You will be asked to research, do wider reading, write drafts and essays and prepare for exam practice questions

What coursework will I need to do?

You will build up a folder of work that needs to include: three speaking and listening tasks; a Shakespeare assignment; a poetry assignment; creative and non-fiction writing assignment.

How will my work be assessed?

There are two final exam papers that assess comprehension (fiction and non-fiction), creative writing and non-fiction writing.
Your final GCSE grade will depend on: english curriculum

Reading coursework 10%
Writing coursework 10%
Final exams 60%

English Literature

This involves the study of books, plays and poems.

What will I learn?

poetry You will read and respond to a wide range of prose, poetry and drama written in English or translated from other languages. You will learn how to appreciate how authors achieve their effects and about the social, historical and cultural influences on literature. There will be visits to museums and art galleries to see important works of art.




What sort of homework will I be set?

You will be asked to research, do wider reading, write drafts and essays and prepare for exam practice questions

What coursework will I need to do?

You will have to complete four assignments: two on poetry; one on prose; and one on drama.

How will my work be assessed?

There is one final written exam paper.
Your final GCSE grade will depend on: english curriculum
